How A Selfie Changed My Life, Kathryn Chapman

Kathryn speaks with a strength born of trial. She is one of the most positive and uplifting people I’ve spoken to. Her story is intense. .....

Kathryn is a portrait photographer and mental health advocate based in Surrey. She specialises in helping women with depression and low self-esteem find an alternative route to their healing through a photographic process called Face to Face. A process birthed from her own battle with depression and anxiety, and a self-portrait shoot that became the most significant part of her recovery journey. Through the vision and mission of Face to Face, she is committed to helping women tell their stories and begin their own journey of healing.

Kath believes that photography is a powerful and valuable tool to help us bear witness to ourselves so that we may hear, see and accept all that we are. It can be a deeply rich aid to mental wellbeing and can help us to understand what it means to be human - vulnerable, complex, creative, beautifully flawed, perfectly unfinished and astonishingly brave. To be safely seen, heard, validated and accepted by someone else is vital. To be safely seen, heard, validated and accepted by ourselves is the most important part of dealing with our pain.
