Life Lessons from Nature

When I left full time employment in the Winter of 2011, I never would have guessed I’d be at home for 9 years. In that time, I had my second child and started a blog. By 2019 I was ready to return to work, but part-time. I volunteered for a few months to get back into the routine of being in a work environment. Then, late summer of 2020, I started my new job. The country had already faced one lockdown due to the Coronavirus, so to stay as safe as possible I opted to walk to work. Along my walk, enjoy showing my readers points of interest along the way.  Sometimes via Instagram I introduce topics for discussion or simply enquire how my listeners are on any given day. My walk to work has become a wonderful addition to my day time routine.

Walking in the Summer and Autumn

The morning walks help me to clear my mind and observe nature. In September, the daylight hours were still long. Gorgeous blue sky and puffy cotton clouds above, lush green trees and grass lead the way. In spite of Coronavirus, we all find ways to keep fit. Joggers ran past me on my way to work and on the way back.

As the leaves began to fall in Autumn, I marvelled at their shapes. On my walk home, I foraged the ones with best shapes and colours for Instagram flat-lays.

Walking in The Winter

Although we didn’t have a white Christmas in England, it was a cosy one. We couldn’t meet up with friends and family but cards were sent and received. We cuddled indoors, snacked and played games.

Sadly, the children didn’t return to school after Christmas as we went into our third lockdown. My walk to work was quieter. The trees by now were stark naked. One day in February, the snow began. I remember walking to work in it, something I’ve never done before. I felt like a kid. The feeling, the texture, the brilliance of the clean white snow made me smile.

Spring is Coming

Now Spring in the air. As I walk to work, each day, there are new flowers popping up along my path. It’s hard to choose a favourite between the golden daffodils and the Crocuses. The magpie’s purplish-teal wings glisten in the light, as it flies through the air. Best of all, now that the children are all back to school, their shouts of laughter in the playground brought a happy tear to my eye.

Seasons Change

Observing nature and people along my walks is a rewarding experience. No matter how grim things may seem, nature has shown nothing stays the same forever. It is a lesson and resilience. There’s always a reason to be cheerful.
