A Christmas Centrepiece
A Christmas eve wander & forage to slow down before the big day and make a beautiful centrepiece ...
With pockets full of unpeeled clementines and mince pies wrapped up in a linen napkin pouch we headed out to find nature to bring indoors. It slowed us down before the cooking and unwrapping, and it created the perfect focus for both our day and our table. A table for sharing meals and making memories.
We brought secateurs and a basket too. Then wrapped up to forage for pine cones and odd branches heavy with evergreen. And it was perfect because we needed to be peeled away from nibbling on too many Christmas cookies. So we bundled up and went out on an adventure for fresh air and foraged finds.
I can’t honestly say it’s yet a tradition but we did it last year for the first time, and intend to do it again. We may even have sung a few carols just because sometimes the spirit just moves you.
Our centrepiece was very as hoc, with candles from the back of the cupboard, a few ivy sprigs, and an orange or two.
We ate breakfast, lunch, and dinner in admiration of nature, life, and most of all, those happy hearts sitting around the table.
